POC Client Trip: Recap

October 26 @ 8:00 am - October 31 @ 5:00 pm

Fatties Rendezvous: Port O’Connor 2025 — Fall Reds, High Water & Redemption

Every fall, we pack up the skiffs, load the trucks, and head south for one of our favorite trips of the year — the Fatties Rendezvous in Port O’Connor, Texas. This fall, we brought eight clients down for a week of redfish action, good company, and all the unpredictable weather the Gulf can throw at us.

Day One — High Hopes & Higher Water

Day one started calm enough, but the tides were exceptionally high — way higher than we wanted. That meant the fish were buried deep in the grass and mangroves, tough to see and even harder to reach.

Each boat managed to find a few fish, but it was a grind — classic fall redfishing when the conditions don’t quite line up. Still, the group kept their spirits high, and everyone knew a shift was coming. By that night, the north wind started to roll in, bringing the front we’d been watching creep across the forecast all week.

Wednesday — Winded Out

By midweek, that front had fully arrived. The wind was howling — gusts hitting 50 mph, whitecaps stacking across the bay, and boats rocking in their slips.
No way to safely get out there, so we called it.

The day off turned into a solid reset — good food, cold drinks, and plenty of stories at the lodge. What felt like a setback at first ended up being just what the trip needed.

Thursday — The Turnaround

When we woke up Thursday, it was like someone had hit the reset button on the bay. The front had done its job — the high water was gone, tides were super low, and everything felt right again.

Bait was stacked up where it should be, and the redfish were right behind them — hungry, aggressive, and forgiving. From the first push of water to the last cast of the day, it was on.

Most boats landed 10+ redfish, with plenty of shots at singles, doubles, and even a few pods cruising the flats. Every fish was healthy, fat, and full of fight, the kind of action that makes you forget all about the tough start.

🐟 The Wrap-Up

By the end of the week, the crew was worn out in the best way — tired arms, sunburned faces, and big smiles all around. What started with high tides and tough conditions turned into an epic few days of fall redfishing and good times on the Texas coast.

We couldn’t have asked for a better crew to share it with. Huge thanks to everyone who joined us on this one — the Port O’Connor Rendezvous delivered again, and we’re already counting down the days until the next trip.
