The company name was inspired by hand written letters left for Ben’s wife Gerrico. Saturday mornings were sacred to both Ben and Gerrico. Ben loves to fish, and Gerrico loved sleeping in on the weekend., What started as a “gone fishing” note left on the floor outside the bedroom slowly transitioned into “gone chasing fatties,” and eventually “chasing fatties on the fly, be back later.” Our dear friend Lee accompanied me one morning and upon reading the note informed me that it was a great name for a company. Exactly what company we were not sure. So we sat down, drew up a few sketches for a logo and then it happened. I received a box of flies that were less than relevant for my time of year and species. It really got under my skin. I loved the monthly subscription, but I wanted to get flies that would hunt. Flies with purpose. So I contacted my close friend Zack and we began the process of fine tuning a solution. How do we take this subscription model and make it better, more personal, and more effective? Since then we have put more focus on providing flies at a much large scale. Our goal is to have Fatties flies and gear in every fly shop in the nation all while still keeping our promise of region, season, and species specific flies and getting more folks on the water. After all, the more folks we can get to experience the great outdoors, the greater the chance we have of saving these wild spaces.
